Things Used: Cricut Venture, Cricut Standard Grip 24"x28" mat, $0.50 poster board, generic permanent marker from Walmart, Cricut Universal Pen Adapter from Amazon, Inkscape (software), Cricut Design Space (software)
I bought the pen adapter off Amazon and I’ll put it with the Cricut stuff the next time I’m in…allows plenty of different pens/markers to be used for drawing. I used Inkscape (Path -> Trace Bitmap... -> Detection Mode = Centerline tracing) to convert a line drawing I found into a format that will allow the Cricut Design Space software to draw it correctly.
Happy to help anyone out that wants to do something similar.
This is awesome, Chris! I was wondering which of the supplies are things all members can use, and which are your personal supplies. I’m specifically interested in the 24 X 28 standard grip mat. I have a cricut at home, but it uses smaller mats, and I frequently want to cut larger things.
@mzocher might be best for a definitive answer as I think he acquired the Cricut Venture and the sampling of supplies including the 24 x 28 standard grip mat.
The things I left in there was a bag with the universal pen adapters and a 24x12 light grip mat (and anyone can feel free to use those).
For my own playing, I just started with an assumption that the machine and cutting mats were fair game, though since cutting mats do eventually wear out after a lot of use, if I abused the mat or used it enough that I considered my use a notable portion of its lifetime I would think it would be fair for me to cover that somehow.
Good question @Kel , and @Chris is right - we’ve got pens, some mats (either that came with or donated by Chris), and we have a bit of vinyl that was donated from a local signmaker.
Our plan is to have the mats, blades, etc. available for people to use with the Cricut. If you mess up a mat or really heavily use the machine (like spending all day cutting thousands of things), we’d ask that you replace any of those items you’ve worn out. But for the vast majority of users doing just a few cuts, you shouldn’t need to worry about bringing in your own mats/blades or needing to replace them.
For vinyl, you can bring in your own to use for free, or use some of ours - we ask for a $1/ft donation if you use the material we have. That’ll go into getting more supplies for the printstudio and help us get more consumable materials.
And a PS> the Cricut Venture doesn’t work with tablets or phones, just laptops. Make sure you bring one in because we don’t have a spare computer at the moment (it’s easy to connect via USB or bluetooth)

I was just wondering when you’re are going to offer more classes besides the one on Sept. 10? Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend that class but I would love the opportunity to take another. I had a Cricut a long time ago but was never able to figure it, so I would love for someone to show me how.
