Sound / media arts

Hi all – I just attended the first part of the informational meeting about the space today, and I think it sounds exciting.

I’m looking for space to start a small sound art studio in town now and would enjoy knowing if there are others interested in such things.

I have a home studio but like the idea of moving it into a shared space where facilities can be used by others. I ran a small community radio project in Milwaukee some years ago, and like the idea of fostering something sound-oriented here too if there’s interest.

PS, thank you so much for setting up a forum!

Welcome @erik , and thanks for coming last night to the meeting! Our forums are still quite new, but I’m hoping they’re a good platform-agnostic place for Winonans to gather around making. Tell your friends!

I’ve had several people ask me if we’d have studio space in the upcoming makerspace, but for the most part they were looking for music practice space. I guess it depends on how much space we’re able to get overall (and how we could insulate the space to keep table saw noise out). But a shared space in Winona sounds helpful for sure - I’ll point people your way when they ask!

LONG ago I was involved with KRFP in Idaho, and it was a blast being a part of a community radio station. I check every once in a while for available LPFM spectrum in the area, but no luck (plus, one major project at a time, right?).

Thanks! That’s cool you were a radio person too.

A practice space in town is a great idea as well, but just to be clear I don’t have one to offer.

A couple years ago we did an event at the biergarten downtown projecting the sounds of the river into the space. I’m interested in doing more listening and sound-oriented projects in town. We’re planning another one for the fall on Latsch Island.
